Light & Love

Yesterday was MLK Day so I shared one of my favorite Martin Luther King Jr. quotes. There are so many good ones to choose from. In my fine arts dance classes the past two years, I did an activity where students worked with a small group, partner or by themself to chose a quote that resonated with them and put movement to the words. They used dance movement to express the words as they were speaking them.

The first time I did this activity, I was afraid the dancers would choose the shortest quote or the most popular, but I was pleasantly surprised that there was always a variety of quotations used. Before we began the assignment, we would discuss who Martin Luther King Jr. was, his importance and what the civil rights movement was about and how it has an impact on their lives now.

We need more love emitted into the world. I encourage you to be the light and love for others. I hope our community can be a light in your life when you need it.
