Whether it’s using medication, going to counseling, inpatient treatment, meditating, setting boundaries, etc. Do what is best for you not what someone else thinks is best for you. Family, friends, culture and society might think they know best but only YOU know how you feel and what is helping to improve your mental wellness.
On the topic of medication, it can be life changing. Although, many people don’t realize how difficult the road can be to finding the medication that works best for you. This can be frustrating because you are looking for some relief, but can possibly come across additional stress in the short term.
Then, you might have to adjust your dosage, there could be side effects or it could interact negatively with another medication you’re currently taking. You have to remember to consistently take your medication as prescribed for the best results and if you don’t taper it off when changing or going off of medication, you can have withdrawal symptoms. And when you find something that works, you may have challenges with insurance, pricing or access.
Mental health IS part of your health. Mental illness IS an illness. There isn’t a one size fits all prescription for everyone.
