When you’re younger, the main thing you heart about menopause is that you get hot flashes. As you get older, you start to hear about some of the other physical changes that begin to happen, but what doesn’t get talked about is the effect of menopause on mental health. One of my sweet coworkers told me that she was rageful until they got her on the right medication. Knowing her personality, it’s hard to imagine, but she said it’s something that can happen when you hit menopause. That’s when I learned you can experience things like anxiety, depression, panic, anger, and irritability during the menopausal transition. Even after you stop menstruating, you still must deal with the effects of changing hormones. Don’t be afraid to bring this up to your primary care physician.
